JourneyTEAM is Hiring a Senior Data Engineer (5+ Years of Experience, On-site, Utah) Near Draper, UT

What you're about to read isn't your typical job description, and that's simply because we're not looking for any ordinary person to join our team. If you find yourself thinking, "Hey, this place sounds awesome," AND "I totally fit this bill," then we want you! Just know that we will absolutely hold off on hiring until we find the right person, BUT that this is absolutely one of the best places to work (we even have awards that back up our claims)

JourneyTEAM

JourneyTEAM is more than just a place to work; we are an organization that values creativity, innovative thinking, hard work, and fun. We offer an excellent opportunity to work alongside brilliant and motivated people. Founded in 1993, JourneyTEAM has grown from a small software implementation shop into an award-winning business-technology consulting firm. We are a Microsoft Advanced Specializations Partner that serves organizations of all sizes, including many of the world's best-known brands. We have expert-level consultants that help c ng, productivity, collaboration, accounting, business intelligence, and security. In short, we’re here to make a positive lasting impact on the world.

Now that you know a little about us, here's a little about the position!

Position Overview

Our Business Intelligence and Analytics team started in October of 2018 and is quickly growing. We largely attribute that growth to the fact that customers simply love working with us. We attribute their love of working with us to the fact that we positively impact their lives and organizations.

This position is to join our team as a Sr. Data Engineer and spend time ingesting, transforming, manipulating, and otherwise engineering lots of data. For example, some of our clients have tables that grow by more than 500 million rows a day (not too shabby for the world of big data).

Job Duties and Responsibilities

If these things don't sound like fun, you're just not going to like working on this team. And if it isn't already clear, we REALLY want you to like working on our team

  • Lead the builds of Data Warehouses/Lakehouses. From front to back, top to bottom, your daily job will include building data warehouses/lakehouses, migrating data, and developing data models for many different companies (and teaching others to do so as you go).
  • Work with clients to assess their current organizational situation. Then, create project plans to address concerns while offering the correct solutions to their specific scenarios. We recognize that not all solutions will fit each customer the same, and we adjust our approach based on the customer's particular needs.
  • Build rapport with customers and work to develop long-term relationships through delivering projects on time, under budget, and being genuinely caring about the work you do. We fully understand that without our customers, we don't have jobs; building and maintaining good relationships with our customers is not only good for business, but it's also good business.
  • Create pipelines, dataflows, ETL jobs, data transformations, and other data-related objects to expand the paradigm in which a client is operating. We believe in being the catalyst in the transformation an organization will go through when they successfully use their data to grow and drive their business. This one is big. If you don't love working with data, you won't love this job.
  • Actively participating in the growth of our team at JourneyTEAM. We believe having a growth mindset isn't just a business term; it's a way of life. (If you haven't read Mindset by Carol Dweck, you should. It's a great book) (and if you don't like reading books, you should. Reading books makes you a better person (Winston Churchill said so.)).
  • Willingly admitting faults and striving to be a better person, team member, and contributing member of society. We know that "Leadership is not about titles or the corner office. It's about the willingness to step up, put yourself out there, and lean into courage." (Dare to Lead, by Brené Brown. Read this one too. You'll like it.).

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience of ETL, data warehouse, and data modeling experience
  • Be an extremely personable leader. This person will be leading projects and will be the face of JourneyTEAM for our customers. They’ll be responsible to clearly communicate expectations, roadblocks, and hurdles with clients and to help teach and train junior resources.
  • Have an innate, insatiable appetite for learning. Consulting is a breading ground for growth and learning. If you don’t love change and learning new things, you won’t like this role.
  • Be a world-class team member who is "humble, hungry, and smart" (look it up if you don't recognize the reference). Working with others is not only something you can do but something you actually enjoy doing.
  • Be able to see and find opportunities in data and then clearly express those opportunities visually and verbally (both for the technically savvy and those less so).
  • Be very fun to work with. We have a very tight-knit team and we aim to keep it so!
  • Able to write, understand, explain, and teach the most complex SQL & Python (though ideally you’re more interested in solving complicated soluting using the most simple code)!
  • Successful track record of architecting data solutions per business requirements, including integration with other platforms and services
  • Expert in designing and building data warehouse dimensional models.
  • Able to write code in SQL, Python, and one other language
